Pretty sure you need a 3/4 ton pickup to haul that much stuff in ‘Murica.

I have a half-ton pickup. But it’s Japanese. So am I like, two-thirds American?

No. You need a clickbait title.
Something like.
‘man in grocery-getter, goes to grocery store, you’ll be surprised what he does!’.
Also, news at who’s 11?, My 11? am or pm, Pip bip’s 11? Duurtlang’s 11?

I love the environment and all, but I really miss plastic bags

Oh yeah, the Safeway on 85th in Kirkland charges me 41 cents per bag. Then I look at Totem Lake and now all the high rises in downtown... A town as environmentally friendly as a man farting inside of his Cadillac Fleetwood.

As a former employee of that Safeway, I’m not surprised. I distinctly recall a conversation with the GM many nears ago where he said that “the regulars don’t care about price, they just want the item in the same place it’s always been, and in stock”. Bags at the Fred Meyer and QFC are 5 cents. Even Metropolitan Market is less.
One thing I’ve found in my apartment hunting lately is that Redmond has shot far above Kirkland, Bellevue, Cap Hill, Ballard etc. In rental costs for newly built apartments. Pretty dramatic difference too... Makes downtown Kirkland look like a reasonably priced area

Paper bags are great, but what’s with this no handles nonsense. Are we living in the ‘80s?

That’s odd hearing, but I forget sometimes that they’re illegal in some places. I remember being a kid when grocery stores transitioned from paper bags to plastic, and missing paper bags.

The city of Austin banned plastic bags, and people learned to start bringing their own. Then the state got involved (with lots of cash from the retail store lobby) and overrode the city ordinance (because Republicans like small government, right?). Many people, myself included, still bring our own bags. Sure, it was a minor investment, but I’d rather not have one-use plastic bags blowing all over town, and they have largely disappeared. Up in Abilene, their like modern tumbleweeds.

That's the idea here as well, but I don't like keeping more things in my car. And plastic bags were useful for a lot of things, whearas the paper bags that are now offered for a fee get thrown away instantly

Ohhhhh no-handle paper bags are the absolute worst. But just in general I'm not a fan. When the temps get low the glue holding the handles on weakens and separates. And I can't carry as much as I could with plastic bags :(

Yeah, if you want to fill those handled paper bags with anything other than chips, you need to be double bagging them. Which is the way most places seem to do them. You can fit an immense amount into a single one compared to plastic. More importantly you’re not going to accidentally cut off circulation to your fingers. Really though, we should all probably be using reusable , though maybe the gains are wiped out by more time spent bagging.

You can also recycle them. Being environmentally conscious does require a bit of work.

yes, but all of us Totem Lakers can think of ourselves as superior thus improving our self esteem

Fold the seats down and you can fit even more :p
